B2B on Shopify: what it does and does not do
Company accounts, price lists, payment terms — and the four things you will still have to build.
What comes in the box
Company accounts with multiple locations, per-company catalogs and price lists, payment terms, and a checkout that knows which of the two a customer is in. For a wholesale operation that mostly sells the same catalogue at different prices, that is the whole build.
The question is never "can Shopify do B2B". It is which four things you will still be writing.
The four you will still build
- 01Order forms at catalogue scaleA buyer ordering 200 SKUs does not want a product grid. That is a custom template every time.
- 02Approval flowsAnything where one person builds the order and another authorises it.
- 03ERP-shaped stock rulesReserved stock, per-customer allocations and backorder policy live outside the platform.
- 04Statement-level reportingWhat the buyer’s finance team asks for is never what the orders API returns.
